A Guest Lecture on “Recent Trends in Banking Technology” was organized by the department on 24.01.2014. Mr. R.Thambi M.Com, CAIIB. Assistant Manager, SBI Branch, Rajapalayam was the resource person.

SEMINAR, WORKSHOP & GUEST LECTURE ORGANISED BY THE DEPARTMENT:

1. Under Virudhunagar District Cluster College Programme, ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON APPLIED RESEARCH IN COMMERCE has been organised by P.G & Research Department of Commerce on 22.12.2014. Dr. M.SELVAKUMAR, M.Com., M.B.A, Ph.D., P.G & Research Department of Commerce, Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College (Autonomous), Sivakasi was the resource person. 105 Research Scholars from seven colleges have participated.

2. A Guest Lecture on “Setting Goals & How to get Job” was organised by the department on 24.12.2014. Mr. S. Chandrasekar, Medical Coordinator, Premier enterprises Chatrapatti was the resource person.

3. A Guest Lecture on “Goal Setting” was organised by the department on 30.01.2015. Mr.Kannan, M.Com, MBA., Accounts & Finance manager, Steppe capital, Singapore was the resource person.

4. A One Day Inter-Departmental cultural symposium “COM FEST – Y2k15” was organised on 02.02.2015 at our Indoor Stadium. Events like AD-Act, Business Quiz, Art from Waste and Rangoli were held in which 128 students (both boys and girls) of B.Com (CA), B.B.A, B.Com (R) and B.Com (SF) departments have participated.

5. A Guest lecture on “Career opportunities in Banking Sector” was organised for PG Final Year Students of our Department on 13.02.2015 by Sri.T.R. Muralidharan, Chief Manager, State Bank of India, Rajapalayam was the resource person.

1. “Awareness Programme on Professional Course – ACS” was organised by PG & Research Department of Commerce on 23.09.2015. CS. T.Nagasundaram, Treasurer, Madurai Chapter, ICSI, CS.T.Sankar Makesh, CS in Practice, Madurai and Mr.Raja, Office-in-charge, Madurai Chapter, ICSI are the resource persons for the Awareness Programme.

2. A Guest Lecture on “Investment Management” was organised by the department on 30.12.2015. Mr.R.Kannan, M.Com, MBA., Accounts & Finance Manager, Steppe capital, Singapore was the resource person.

3. A Guest Lecture on “Believe in You” was organised by the department on 18.01.2016. Mr.V. Ram Singh, M.B.A., Motivational Speaker, Rajapalayam was the resource person.

4. A Guest Lecture on “Life Insurance Corporation of India – Boon to Economy” was organised by PG & Research Department of Commerce on 16.02.2016. Sri.T.A.Somasundaram, M.Com., Development Officer, LIC, Rajapalyam was the resource person.

SEMINAR, WORKSHOP & GUEST LECTURE ORGANISED BY THE DEPARTMENT:

A Guest Lecture on “Income Tax – Income from House Property” was delivered by Dr. M.Selva Kumar, M.Com, M.Phil., M.B.A., Ph.D, Assistant Professor, PG & Research Department of Commerce, A.N.J.A. College, Sivakasi for Post Graduate Commerce Students on 02.08.2016.

A Guest Lecture on “Research Methodology – Sampling Techniques” was delivered by Dr. A. JOSEPH XAVIER, M.Com, M.Phil., Ph.D, Assistant Professor, PG & Research Department of Commerce, A.N.J.A. College, Sivakasi for M.Phil Research scholars on 03.08.2016.

“Awareness Programme on Professional Course – ACS” was organised by PG & Research Department of Commerce on 30.08.2016. Mr.Raja, Office-in-charge, Madurai Chapter, ICSI is the resource person for the Awareness Programme.

“CA Awareness Programme – CPT, IPC and CA Final Examination” was organised by the department on 13.10.2016. Mr.R.Suresh kumar, ACA, AICWA, ACS, MBA., Chairman, Sivakasi Branch of SRIC of ICAI and Mr.K.Balaganesh, M.B.A., Office Manager, Sivakasi Branch of SRIC of ICAI are the resource persons for the Awareness Programme.

“Career Guidance Programme on CMA and CA” was orgainsed by the Department on 06.03.2017 for III B.Com (R) Students. CA.T.Sivagurunathan, FCA, ACMA, Partner, Madhu Balan & Associates, Chennai is the resource person.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR - 2017-18

SEMINAR, WORKSHOP & GUEST LECTURE ORGANISED BY THE DEPARTMENT:

1. A Guest Lecture on “Investment Management” was organised by the department on 30.06.2017. Mr.R.Kannan, M.Com, MBA., Accounts & Finance Manager, Steppe Capital, Singapore acted as the resource person.

2. An Awareness Programme on Certificate Programme in Financial Accounting Tally.ERP 9 (Tally for GST) was organized jointly by PG & Research Department of Commerce and Kalvi Higher Education and Research Institute, Madurai on 20.07.2017 for III B.Com, I M.Com and II M.Com Students. Mr.R.Shenbagaraj, Business Development Officer, Mr.Pawaz Jamal, Certified Tally Trainer and Mrs.Jothi Jeyakumar, Business Partner served as the resource persons for the programme.

3. Inter-Departmental Business Quiz Programme was organized for UG Students of B.Com (R), B.Com (SF), B.Com (CA) and BBA on 28.07.2017.

4. One Day Workshop on GST was organized by the department on 23.08.2017. CA.R.Suresh kumar, FCA, AIMA., ACS, MBA., has delivered a lecture on “GST and its Impact on Commerce Students” and CA.M.Muthusubramanian, M.Com,FCA.,ERAD.CWA., DISA., Chartered Accountant, Rajapalayam has delivered a lecture on “An Overview of GST and its Impact” for UG & PG Students and provided practical insight to the current implications of GST.

5. Inter-Collegiate Cultural Programme – COMMUTSAV – 2K17
The Post Graduate and Research Department of Commerce has organized an Inter-Collegiate Cultural Meet “COMMUTSAV-2K17” on 1st September, 2017. The events such as Paper Presentation, Quiz, Ad-Act and Rangoli were conducted for the student participants and prizes were distributed. 150 students from 12 colleges in Virudhunagar District took part in the cultural meet.

6. “CA Awareness Programme – CPT, IPC and CA Final Examination” was organised by the department on 04.10.2017. CA.P.Selvaraj, B.Com., FCA., Chairman, SICASA, Sivakasi and Mr.K.Balaganesh, M.B.A., Office Manager, Sivakasi Branch of SIRC of ICAI created an awareness with regard to the professional courses.

7. A Guest Lecture on “Employment Opportunities for Commerce Graduates” by Sri.A.Lakshma Perumal, M.B.A., CMA, Director, Finance & Operations, MGM Entertainment Pvt., Ltd, Chennai was organized by department on 23.10.2017 for UG final year and PG final year Students.

8. A Programme on Career Guidance was organised by 1980 B.Com Batch on 07.12.17 to motivate the students of III B.Com and II M.Com. The Speakers were:

9. TWO DAYS NATIONAL SEMINAR ON GOODS AND SERVICES TAX (GST) – A PARADIGM SHIFT IN INDIAN TAXATION
Two days National Seminar on “Goods and Services Tax (GST) – A Paradigm Shift in Indian Taxation” was organized by PG & Research Department of Commerce, Rajapalayam Rajus’ College, Rajapalayam on 2nd and 3rd March 2018. Dr.L.Rengarajan, Head of the Department delivered the Thematic Address of the seminar. CA. R.Suresh Kumar, inaugurated the seminar and delivered keynote address on “An Overview of GST Structure and Recent Trends of GST” in our country. Mr. J.Joseph Israel, Superintendent, Central GST & Central Excise, Rajapalayam, was the chief guest and he stressed the importance of GST on Indian Economy. Total of 608 Participants including Students, Research Scholars and Faculty Members from 25 Colleges of Madurai, Theni, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Virudhunagar districts participated and presented research papers. Dr.V.Venkatraman, Principal delivered the Presidential address. Shri. B.Gopal Krishna Raja, President and Shri. A.A.S.Shyam, Secretary, College Governing Council offered felicitation. Dr. B.Rose Kavitha, Director-Research and Corporate Trainer, Bangalore, elucidated and critically examined the Impact of GST on E-Commerce. Dr.C.Madhavaiah, Assistant Professor of Management Studies, Pondicherry University spoke about the Impact of GST on Consumers. The speakers of the Conference included CA. T.Siva Gurunathan, Prof.S.Baskaran, CA.S.K.Jegadesan, CA.P.Selvaraj, CA.A.KumaraVelsamy, CA.C.Gurusamy and Prof. S. Elangovan.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR - 2018-19

SEMINARS, WORKSHOPS & GUEST LECTURES ORGANISED BY THE DEPARTMENT:

1. A Guest Lecture on “INTRODUCTION TO ERP SYSTEMS” was organised by the Department on 21.08.2018. Mrs. Kamalavelu Velayutham, B.E, M.Sc (U.K)., Ph.D Scholar in University of Bolton, U.K has acted as the resource person.

2. An Awareness Programme on ACS was organized jointly by PG & Research Department of Commerce and Placement Cell on 12.09.2018 for I B.Com students. Mr.T.Raja, Office–In-Charge, Madurai chapter of ICSI, Madurai served as the resource person for the programme.

3. “Peter Drucker Commerce Association” was inaugurated on 24th October 2018 and the inaugural address was delivered by Dr. K. Jeyakodi, M.Com., MBA., M.Phil., Ph.D., Associate Professor and Head, PG and Research Department of Commerce, Saraswathi Narayanan College, Madurai.

4. A Guest Lecture on “Eradicate Corruption to build New India” by Mr.K.R.Chinna Balan, Branch In-charge, United India Insurance Company Ltd, Rajapalayam was organized by the Department on 24.10.2018 for UG and PG final year Students.

5. A Guest Lecture on “Demystifying the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016” by CA. M. Muthusubramanian, M.Com., FCA., ERAD.., CWA., DISA., Chartered Accountant, Rajapalayam was organized by the Department on 27.12.2018 for UG and PG final year Students.
The Department takes initiatives for the overall development of students by imparting practical orientation for their career and inculcates employability skills which ease to face this competitive world. The activities and programmes focuses on practical application in the areas of Banking, CA, CS and Entrepreneurial competencies.

CERTIFICATE COURSE: The Department offers ‘Certificate Course in Salesmanship’ certified by the Madurai Kamaraj University to enhance the employability of the students.

PETER DRUCKER COMMERCE ASSOCIATION: The Department is consistently organizing the Intra-Departmental and Inter-Collegiate Programs on Ad Act, Business Quiz, Rangoli, Essay Writing, MIME etc. in order to exhibit the student talents apart from their academic endeavours.

PLACEMENT PROGRAMMES: To provide better employment for the students, we have been arranging On- the Job training and Off Campus programmes through Placement Cell. Eminent Resource Persons in the field of Industry, Banking, Auditing etc. and our prominent alumini placed in several reputed organisations have been invited for the guest lecutures.

NET/SET COACHING CLASS: Our Department Staff members are conducting UGC NET & SET coaching classes for the students pursuing their professional career.
